The FirstEnergy Building, completed in 1976, was the initial step in downtown Akron's revitalization program called Superblock. It is an attractive 19-story redbrick structure encompassing approximately 335,000 square feet. Its gazebo, interactive directories and high definition televisions welcome visitors to this headquarters building for the FirstEnergy Corporation, who occupies approximately 100% of the building.
The Akron Centre Plaza was built in 1981 and is a 12 story well-designed attractive structure constructed of brick, which constitutes the second phase of the Akron Superblock encompassing approximately 176,000 square feet, and includes an expansion of the Shoppes at Akron Centre. The building opens onto an outdoor brick paved plaza and contains state of the art security and life safety as part of the energy management systems.Located within the buildings are stock brokerage firms, law firms, insurance companies and various retail shops including a bank, market, boutique and beauty salon. In addition, there are several eateries from which to choose for breakfast, lunch, or snacks. The attached, covered parking deck which is owned by the city, has approximately 1,300 spaces.
